Prof.Dr.Atty.YAVUZ KAPLAN
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kaplan, born in Hanau, Germany in 1968, completed his undergraduate law studies at Marmara University Faculty of Law in 1990. In 1991-1992, he completed his legal internship at the Istanbul Bar Association and obtained his lawyer’s license. He pursued his master’s degree in the field of Private International Law at Selçuk University Institute of Social Sciences between 1992 and 1994, with a thesis titled “Protection of Children in the Field of Private International Law.” Continuing his academic journey, he completed his doctoral studies at Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences in the field of Private International Law with a thesis titled “The Impact of Procedural Irregularities and Procedural Violations in International Arbitration,” earning his doctorate in law in 2001. His successful work led to his appointment as an associate professor in 2005 and as a professor in the Department of Private International Law in 2010. Throughout his career, he conducted research at various intervals at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Catholic University of Eichstätt/Ingolstadt, and University of Augsburg in Germany.
In addition to his membership in the Istanbul Bar Association, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kaplan held various academic and administrative positions at several universities. He served as a dean, head of the Department of Private Law, head of the Department of Private International Law, and was a member of the Higher Education Council (YÖK) Ethics Commission. He also participated in various committees and working groups and acted as an arbitrator in arbitration disputes. He was a member of the Commission on the Preparation of the Turkish International Arbitration Law within the Ministry of Justice.
In the years 2016-2017, upon an invitation from King’s College in the United States, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kaplan served as a Visiting Scholar. In 2017, he received an invitation from the Hamburg Max Planck Institute, where he conducted research during his doctoral and associate professorship stages. In Hamburg, he was awarded the Magdalena Schoch Fellowship for his research project titled “Legal Status of Refugees in International Law.” In 2020, he also received a research grant from the State of Hamburg and Hamburg University. From 2021 to 2022, he held the title of Gastprofessor (Visiting Professor) at the Institute of International Law at Hamburg University.
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kaplan, who has published numerous books and articles in the field of law, has been working as a registered professor lawyer at the Istanbul Bar Association since 2022, in addition to his membership in the Hamburg Bar Association.
He is proficient in German, English, and Turkish.
